Stefanos Tsialis served as the Artistic Director of the Athens State Orchestra from 2014 to 2020. As of 2012, he has been a permanent guest conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and was a permanent guest conductor of the Thuringia Philharmonic Orchestra (2015-2019).
Born in Hermoupolis in 1964, he studied piano at the Thessalonica New Conservatory, Musicology at Copenhagen University, and Orchestral Conducting at the Vienna Academy of Music. During the period 1997-2004 he was the Artistic Director of the Central German Chamber Philharmonic. He has also served as: Permanent Conductor and Deputy General Music Director at the Southern Thuringia State Opera in Meiningen (2005-2009); Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Thuringia Philharmonic Orchestra at Gotha (2009-2013); and permanent guest conductor of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (2001-2004). He has worked with almost 100 orchestras worldwide, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in Scandinavia. He has also worked with the philharmonic orchestras of Copenhagen, Qatar, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Dortmund, Slovenia, and Bucharest. Other orchestras with which he has worked include the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra; the Radio Orchestras of Leipzig, Saarland, Hanover, and Bucharest; the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and the Staatskapelle Weimar. He has given concerts in most EU countries, in the USA, Canada, Russia, Cuba, South Africa and other countries. He has made recordings for the Naxos, Genuin, and Centaur labels. He has also made television and radio broadcast appearances in Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Romania, and South Africa.
