Sofia Karvouna

Soprano

Soprano singer Sofia Karvouna was born in Athens and studied law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She took her first piano lessons at the National Conservatory, and continued at the Athens Conservatory of Music with the conductor Giannis Ioannidis and the internationally renowned piano soloist Nilian Perez-Ioannidou. At the same time she studied Advanced Music Theory (Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue) with A. Kallianiotis at the National Conservatory, Composition at the “Diapason Conservatory” with St. Tsatalbassis, and she got a Vocal Performance Diploma having studied with the distinguished tenor George Zervanos at the Contemporary Conservatory of Athens, from where she graduated with a degree of Distinguished Excellency and First Prize. In 2015 she completed the postgraduate course of Vocal Singing of Ch. Savino at the Athens Conservatoire. She has attended opera masterclasses with the internationally renowned tenor Ryland Davies, Early Music seminars with the lute player Chris Wilson, and specialized Medieval Music lessons at the Center of Early Music at the Athens Conservatoire. Since 2000 she has been a permanent member of the City of Athens Professional Choir. As a chorist and soloist, she has participated at the historical Athens Choir, the Association of Friends of Modern Music, the vocal ensemble “En Fonais”, the “Piraeus Harmony”, the “Independent Music Development Association”, the medieval music group “Lyrae Cantus”, the “NEVMA” project, the choir ensemble Voice Box, the vocal ensemble “EKLIPSIS”, and is a founding member of the Schola Cantorum Sancti Pauli of the Anglican Church of Athens. As a soloist she has given concerts at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus, at the Theater “OLYMPIA” (former National Opera), at the Conference Center of the University of Patras, at the “Parnassos Hall” in Athens, at the Athens Hilton Hotel, at the “Center for Judicial Studies” of the Prof. Emeritus of Law K. Beys, in the Saint Paul Anglican Church in Athens, in the Saint Lucas Catholic Church of Old Heraklion, in the Old Psychicon Catholic Church, in the Athens German Church, and in various concert halls in Greece, Köln, Bonn, Berlin, Milan and Verbania. She has also been active in the field of radio advertising and English Language Textbooks. She has collaborated with conductors and composers in live concerts as well as in recordings (G. Petrou, M. Chryssikopoulos, G. Ioannidis, A. Symeonidis, S. Beris, L. Karytinos, F. Gianellou, K. Molfesi, N. Paletsou, M. Logiadis, D. Pylarinos, G. Markopoulos, M. Plessas, G. Katsaros, M. Theodorakis, G. Ioannou, M. Tokkas, N. Mavroudis, D. Lagios, E. Karaindrou etc.), and has experimented with vocals in Epic Metal bands. Since 2010 she has been a lawyer at the Piraeus Bar Association.
