Elli Gounari

Choir teacher

She was born and raised in Athens. Her affinity for music emerged while she was still a child and was encouraged through her exposure to programs focusing on preparing her for an environment of music. In 2008, she joined the Rosarte Children’s Choir under the direction of Rosy Mastrosavva and took part in domestic and international performances. In Greece, such performances included music venues such as the Athens Concert Hall, the Greek National Opera, and the Odeon of Herodus Atticus. Abroad, as a member of the Rosarte Children’s Choir, she performed at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and at two World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia, in 2014, and Pretoria, South Africa, in 2018. In 2011, she entered the Experimental Music High School of Pallini, Attica. There, she was taught Music Theory of European and Byzantine Music, piano, and tambour. In 2013, while still in high school, she attended a choral music arrangement seminar under the tutelage of André van der Merwe. She graduated in 2017 and went on to study at the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering, School of Engineering, University of the Aegean, Syros campus. At present, she lives on the island of Syros where she has been teaching at the Children’s and Youth Choir, Orchestra of the Cyclades since 2018.
