Dimitrios Gkogkas

Trumpet

Born in Corfu in 1988. He received his first trumpet lessons at Mantzaros Philarmonic Society and continued his studies with Socrates Anthis at Philippos Nakas Conservatory,where he graduated in 2005. In 2006 he was accepted with a full scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music, London where he studied with James Watson (trumpet) and John Hutchnis (baroque trumpet). Dimitrios won the 3rd prize in the international trumpet Competition `Girolamo Fantini`in Rome , Italy, and reached the final round in Jan Koetsier Brass Quintet Competition,Munich as well as in ROSL Annual Music Competition, London with the “QuintEssence” brass quintet. As a soloist he performed with Athens Symphony Orchestra, Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra and Athens State Sym- phony Orchestra. Furthermore he collaborated with composers as Peter Maxwell Davies, Harrison Birtwistle and George Benjammin. Davie’s Sonata for trumpet and piano, was interpreted by Dimitris for the BBC Young Artist Showcase and broadcasted live in many European countries. He was a member of the Athens Radio Symphony Orchestra and the National Opera of Greece. Since May 2020 Dimitrios holds the principal trumpet position of the Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra.
