Tomasz Strahl

Cello

He graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw in 1989, studying cello under Professor Kazimierz Michalik. He completed a postgraduate course at Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Tobias Kühne and studied chamber music with Krzysztof Jakowicz. He has won several competitions, including the 5th International Nicanor Zabaleta Music Competition in San Sebastian, Spain (1991), and received scholarships from the Polish-Japanese Foundation JESC (1994) and the Austrian Government. He has collaborated with renowned conductors like Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk, Andrzej Boreyko, and Krzysztof Penderecki. Strahl has performed with prominent orchestras, including the Polish Chamber Orchestra, Polish Radio Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio in Katowice, as well as the Sofia Philharmonic and the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal São Paulo. His notable performances include venues such as Schauspielhaus (Berlin), St. John’s Smith Square (London), and Toppan Hall (Tokyo). Strahl has recorded for various labels and received multiple awards, including the Fryderyk award in 2003 and 2019. He teaches at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, where he has been Dean of the Department of Instrumental Studies since 2012. His accolades include the Gold Medal Gloria Artis and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland.
