Soprano
Soprano Marina Theodoropoulou has appeared as a soloist in concerts and festivals around Greece, UK, Germany, France, Thailand and Italy. Her repertoire encompasses all styles from early baroque to contemporary music, and also music by Greek composers, including first performances. As a founding member of Duo Dulce Amarum, a voice and renaissance lute/ theorbo duo she performed and gave workshops in the UK and Italy. She has recorded audio examples in Prof. Robert Toft’s book Bel canto: a practical guide (Oxford University Press, 2013). An experienced choral singer, she has sung and recorded with the Yorkshire Bach Choir, with the Bach Choir in London for Signum Classics at the BBC Maida Vale studios, and with the Choir of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT). She holds a BA in music (Corfu, Greece), MA and PhD in music performance (York, UK, Prof. Peter Seymour). For her doctoral studies she edited, performed and recorded 28 selected Solo Soprano Cantatas by A. Scarlatti, composed between 1704-05. Recent projects include the ‘Roots to the future’ at the Festival Yunger Kuenstler, Bayreuth (2017). Apart from her performing career, Marina has a long and varied teaching experience with students of all ages, levels and abilities, as a music teacher in public primary schools in Greece, a one-to-one singing teacher (Ionian University, Corfu and University of York) and as a vocal ensemble coach in London, Athens and Pyrgos.
