The “ANO” International Organ Festival participates in the events taking place throughout 2021 and celebrating the 200 years since the Greek War of Independence with a view to showcasing timeless national values and to paying tribute to our ancestors. In homage to the Greek War of Independence Bicentennial, “ANO” Festival will hold a festive concert. The program’s themes focus on Greece, with works for organ and two female solo artists. Soloists: Sophia Papadimitropoulou, soprano; Ioanna Vrakatseli, alto; and Eleni Keventsidou, organ.
The concert will comprise works by Bach as well as the work “Inno alla Grecia” (Hymn to Greece) by Momigny, together with compositions by Manolis Kalomiris, the founder of our Greek National School of Music (“Offering for the Greek Youth”, “Iambs and Anapests”). The concert will conclude with an excerpt from “Hymn to Freedom” by Dionysios Solomos, set to music by Nikolaos Mantzaros, whose first two stanzas have become Greece’s National Anthem.
The concert will be held at St. George’s Cathedral, Ano Syros (without audience) and will be streamed online on Thursday, October 28, at 18:00 hours on “ANO” Festival’s pages on both YouTube and Facebook.
“ANO” Festival would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Hara Kalomiri and the Manolis Kalomiris Society for graciously allowing us to use the relevant musical material.
